Paul Desmond
The Complete Paul Desmond RCA Victor Recordings: 1961-65
NOTE: This is an import from BMG France. It is more complete than the US release
in that it includes Two of a Mind
(RCA/Bluebird 9654-2-RB) recorded by Desmond with Gerry Mulligan for RCA Victor. The track order is different from the USA version, so a different remastering was used.
The package contains a CD-sized booklet (appr. 50 pages), Cinq Temps Pour Paul Desmond (Five For Paul Desmond) by Paul Benkimoun (in English and French). This was originally published in a limited edition (300 copies) for Les Autodidactes, with illustrations by Loustal. There is also a selected Discography.

The Complete Paul Desmond RCA Victor Recordings
NOTE: This is a somewhat incomplete collection -- despite the title. Desmond also recorded Two of a Mind (RCA/Bluebird 9654-2-RB) with Gerry Mulligan for RCA Victor, but these tracks are not included, though they are included on the BMG (France) version, The Complete Paul Desmond RCA Victor Recordings (1961-65). The Mosaic Records' collection, The Complete Recordings of the Paul Desmond Quartet with Jim Hall (Mosaic 120) includes all the Paul Desmond/Jim Hall Quartet recordings including tracks from First Place Again! which he recorded with Hall for Warner Bros. (WS-1356). Unfortunately the Mosiac set is out-of-print -- which makes this RCA collection a pretty good buy.
The collection is nicely packaged, with reproductions of the original album covers, photographs, and liner notes by Doug Ramsey, a jazz critic and close friend of Desmond's. Also included is Ramsey's classic essay "Remembering Desmond."
