Jack Sheedy's Dixieland Band
According to Ted Giola's West Coast Jazz, Sheedy was a trombonist
who, as well as being a Dixieland musician, owned his own record label, Coronet/Koronet.
He was the first person to record the Dave Brubeck Trio. However when he failed
to pay his bills, he forfeited the masters to the Weiss brothers who owned
a record-pressing company. Later this became Fantasy Records.

Jack Fina's Orchestra
NOTE: In June, 1950, Desmond joined the Jack Fina Orchestra and went to N.Y.C. There is a photo of him with the band at the Waldorf-Astoria. Desmond is sitting in the front row, grinning, a clarinet in hand. His plan was to find better work as soon as the band hit N.Y. But when he got there he found, "all the guys I talked to wanted my job with Fina, which was pretty discouraging."
I have been told that Desmond recorded with Fina -- however Herb Geller
who was in the band with Desmond doesn't remember recording with Fina.

The Paul Desmond Quintet/Quartet
Tracks #1-8 - Desmond: The Paul Desmond Quintet - Fantasy 321. This
album sometimes appears listed as The Paul Desmond Quintet with Voices.
Tracks #1,4,5,8 - Los Angeles, CA - 10 & 11/54
Tracks #2,3,6,7 - San Francisco, CA - 10/54
NOTE: This, Desmond's first album as a leader, was remastered in 1987 and released
as one side of a Fantasy LP called Gerry Mulligan/Paul Desmond (OJC 273
/ F-8082). Mulligan's side featured Mulligan with Chet Baker and Chico Hamilton.
The album was pressed in red vinyl.
The original Fantasy 321 LP contained three additional tracks -- Fugue VI, New
Strings and Warm Cradle -- all recorded October, 1954. They were dropped from
the subsequent issue (Fantasy 8082). These appear to be the only studio tracks
that Desmond recorded without Brubeck that haven't been remastered and reissued.
